When we decided to move into our RV full time and start our Journey 4 Change, we began researching gear and equipment that would make our experience easier or more enjoyable. We have had several people ask for info on how to buy or where to find items so we thought it would be easier to gather it all in one place. Below you will find links to the items we have purchased, use, and recommend for our travel trailer and motor home. Further down, you will find a brief description of what we like about it.

The items are not listed in any particular order. To make links quick and easy to find, we have placed them at the top of the page together and separate reviews of the item further down the page.

Please note: the links you find here or elsewhere on our website may be affiliate links and we may receive a small commission from the companies for recommending their product. This does not affect your price in any way as the commission is paid from the company, not you.  You may also rest assured that we will never recommend an item we did not believe in and use ourselves.

This Villa Room is maybe the best RV upgrade we have made to date! The privacy windows allow us to create an entire extra room well over half the length of our motor home. The sides zip together to close gaps and a skirt for the bottom of your RV is included. The bottom has extra fabric that allows  you to flip it over to stake it down and virtually eliminate any gaps like sun screens can cause. We use sand bags to easily weight down the extra material. Plus we are able to put down a woven outdoor carpet to create a nice floor area in the villa room. These features plus the custom "rafters" work to create an almost completely enclosed space. This not only increased your privacy but also reduces the amount of bugs that can get in. You can choose which end your door is on and also decide if you want the zip window closure panels on the inside or outside of your villa. There is also a panel that attaches to the bottom of the motor home that encloses that gap under the coach. This is great to prevent bugs as well as to allow Jezebel to be off leash when she is lounging with us. Watch your pet in case they are explorer types who may try to get under the panel and escape-lucky for us-Jezebel is just happy to be lounging free and has not ever tried to venture under the panel.

Our version is designed for automatic awnings but they do offer them in manual options. It comes in a variety of sizes to fit your motor home or RV. Order it on Amazon and your shipping speed is much faster then directly from the manufacturer. Plus their service was amazing! We received the wrong style and size twice-however the sent an ACTUAL company rep to us to ensure we had the correct model for our motor home. Plus there is an entire one year warranty on every bit of it.

After initial set up, it is quick and easy to put up and take down! It really expands your living space which is crucial when you are full time. It is truly a game changer!

Our Experiences With The RV Stuff We Love

Below you will find a brief description of our experience with the items and features that we really like. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hughes Autoformers Power Watchdog Smart Bluetooth Surge Protector Plus EPO with Auto Shutoff

As we learned more and more about full time RVing, we were shocked to learn how many people had their entire RV destroyed by power surges or bad power supplies at campgrounds. Many campgrounds have older electrical infrastructure which can be a threat to your rig. This handy whole rig surge protector protects you before the power problem reaches your camper. Think of it as a surge protector for your entire RV! Plus the Watchdog also offers a app for your phone that will allow you to view your usage and troubleshoot problems all from the comfort of inside your rig. This Bluetooth app will prevent you from having to go out to the pole and view trouble codes if they arrive, instead you can see them right on your phone. It is available in different amps to fit your RV as well as a version that can be hardwired into your rig permanently.

During our first month of full time rving we stayed in our coach through Hurricane Sally. As power surged and fluctuated, the Watchdog would shut down power to our rig and then reestablish it when it was safe which possibly saved us thousands of dollars in electrical damage.

X-Chock Wheel Stabilizer

A home on wheels is awesome! But it can also feel jiggly and wiggly when you move around inside! The X-Chock stabilizers almost completely eliminate the annoying movement of your rig. Easy to install, these stabilizers are placed between the tires to stop that movement inside your rig. The X-Chock's do not damage your tires. They do not replace wheel chocks but rather work in conjunction with your stabilizer jacks and chocks to prevent the irritating movement and swaying of your travel trailer.

Jackery Portable Power Station Explorer 1000, 1002Wh Solar Generator

We bought this a few months ago to take on the road with us for work and for off-grid camping. We use it to run our ice-less cooler, fans, coffee maker, etc without drawing from van battery. One of our relatives decided to buy one as she uses a CPAP machine and in case of power outages it could be a life saver
In our opinion, is a MUST have for emergencies or camping! After Hurricane Sally it came in so handy!  We were not forced to seek fuel or worry about oil like a traditional generator requires. While it charges with a standard household plug in and a cigarette lighter, we choose to order the matching 2 solar panels and we are so glad we did. During the hurricane we were able to fed the neighbors using our Instapot, make coffee, keep phones and tablets charged, and even run a fan at night for sleeping! It is silent except for an internal fan that occasionally kicks on. It even had optional jumper cables to charge your vehicle batteries (which can be handy if you are in a remote location!).
We have ordered another one by a different manufacturer that is big enough to run AC units that we have not received yet as it is in prototype production. We will review that as soon as we receive it.
The Jackery is available in different sizes and each has multiple power option, USB, household plugs, and is sized like a small Igloo cooler.
It's simple, clean, easy to use-no pull start or priming require-simply push a button and you have power! Fossil fuel generators are ancient technology that are a hassle, loud, messy, and difficult for some people to use or store. Do yourself a favor and invest in one of these!

Plug for Fridge Drain Hose

This is one of those things that you do not know you need until you have a problem! When our AC started acting weird we discovered a mud dauber had built a nest inside it throwing it off balance. That was when we learned that screens are available for your exterior vents and drain lines to keep insects out. This handy little plug fits into the drain hose of your fridge and stops bugs from nesting inside and ruining your refrigerator.

Lucid 10 Inch Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress

We had a love hate relationship with the mattress on our house. It was a Sealy Posturpedic memory foam mattress. While it was very comfortable, it also retained heat easily and made you very hot at night. When we decided to move into the RV, we gave it away as it was too long to fit our rig that required a Queen Short mattress size.  After several days of research, we ordered the Lucid Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress from Amazon. It is available in Queen Short, which is a common RV size. It also features a gel  infused top layer to pull heat from you and keep you cooler. It came compressed in a small box which made it super simple to carry into our bedroom area and open.  Once opened, it takes 48 hours to fully decompress.  It was simple and easy. It is so comfy and does really keep you cooler when you sleep!

LUCID Premium Rayon from Bamboo Jersey Mattress Protector

Grab one of the comfy mattress protectors to keep your mattress safe from spills, dust mites, and allergens. Even though it is waterproof it does not feel or sound like plastic. You can not feel it beneath your sheet, it is very comfortable to sleep on. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the bamboo and jersey protector for its price. Other higher priced options we have had in the past are not as comfortable as this is.

PORTAL Oversized XL Zero Gravity Chair

We wanted outdoor chairs that would be really comfortable as we plan on spending a lot of time outside. These zero gravity chairs are oversize and designed to hold up to 350 pounds which gives you plenty of room to stretch out and relax. The pillow is adjustable so it can be used to rest your head or for lumbar support. The design of the padded chair eliminates the sharp edge of traditional chairs that cuts into the back of your legs. A side table with drink holder is attached. The chairs will lean far enough back you can recline take a nap and enjoy the breeze! The only downside we need to note is that these chairs are heavy.  For us, this is not a problem as we will use them only at our campsite. If you want chairs that are portable to load up and take to places these may be too heavy for moving around a lot.

EternaBond RV Mobile Home Roof Seal Sealant Tape & Leak Repair Tape AND
Dicor 501LSW-1 Epdm Self-Leveling Lap Sealant

Probably the number one thing you must be diligent about when you own a RV is preventing, finding, and sealing water leaks. As your rig travels down the road over bumps and uneven roads and is exposed to UV sun rays, the seams and edges around vents and skylights are susceptible to leaks as the roof flexes. Water damage in a RV can cost you thousands of dollars to repair. Simple, regular maintenance of seams and around vents, antennas, and skylights is the best way to prevent water leaks. EternaBond RV Tap and Dicor Self-Leveling Sealant should be your arsenal for preventing or repairing RV leaks.

EternaBond RV Sealant Tape is designed to hold up for years and to create a flexible, weatherproof seal. Our slide out had an area of the floor that was getting weak due to water run off wicking around edge and seeping into the plywood under the slide. An RV tech told us about EternaBond and to use it to seal the edge after drying out the wood.  Luckily we also had the roll on hand when a tree landed on the travel trailer and scraped the vinyl down to the wood. A combo of EternaBond and Dicor saved the travel trailer from being totaled due to water damage.

Be sure to use a self leveling sealer designed for RV's. A self-leveling sealer will ensure you do not create a water problem with uneven sealer creating water pooling. It is also designed to stand up to the sun's harsh rays and weather. Keep a tube of Dicor self-leveling lap sealer on hand and regularly inspect your roof and re-caulk it.

Super Bright LED Bulbs for RV Interior Lights (Pack of 20, 6000K White)

The standard bulbs that come in your RV or motor home draw a lot of power and create enough heat to melt the plastic covers. Not to mention, they do not light your rig adequately. The light they offer is a dim, yellow light that makes things look dingy and is difficult to read by. We love bright, white light without any yellow tinge and wanted to upgrade to LED lights. We were also planning for off-grid use as well and wanted to reduce our power needs as much as possible. This multi-pack was enough to do our entire travel trailer and leave a couple of spares for backup for less then $25! They throw a bright, clean light that does not create any heat or melt your shades. These work amazing and are priced very well. If we would have went with one of their competitors, we would have spent several hundred dollars to change our rig over to LED. These are available warm white, natural, and super bright white. We went with the super bright white and love them!

Reese Towpower Heavy Duty Coupler Lock

You have to protect your investment. Using this simple lock will prevent someone from backing up to your travel trailer and driving off with it. Also great for boats and other recreational vehicles you may tow. It gives us the peace of mind that any time we need to leave our travel trailer unattended it is protected.

Esright Brass Water Pressure Regulator 3/4 Lead-Free with Gauge Adjustable Water Pressure Regulator

Just as electrical supplies can be questionable in a campground, so can water supplies. Too much pressure coming into your rig can cause thousands of dollars in damage by bursting water lines or creating pressure leaks. This little gauge gets attached to the water spigot coming out of the ground and is adjustable. Lead-free means it is safe to use for potable water.

Camco Water Tank Filler with Shutoff Valve

This handy little inexpensive accessory will quickly and efficiently help you fill your fresh water storage tank.  Attach it to your hose and enjoy the easy shut off valve to help you not get soaked trying to fill your tank.  You will not need to attach the garden hose to your rig-this slips right into the opening and leaves enough room to make sure there is no vacuum seal slowing down the water flow. It also eliminates line backflow. It is drinking water safe. We store ours in a big zip-lock bag to keep it clean between uses. This is one of those cheap gadgets you do not know you need until you try it.

MOFI4500-4GXeLTE-SIM7-COMBO 4G/LTE Router with Upgraded 2 x Cell Antenna

Internet connection is very important to us as we work online. Many campgrounds have unreliable internet if any.  After much research we chose to go with the MOFI Sim Card Router to help meet our internet needs.  We purchased a cheap T-Mobile phone and use the sim card from that phone in our MOFI router. The router uses the sim card to access the internet without using your hotspot phone data. This has worked very well for us. Allowing us to work and to even stream Netflix.

Homeon Wheels Safety RV Steps 16.5" x 12.2" RV Step Stool Folding Platform Step with Non-Slip Durable Feet

It seems like every RV we have been in needs an extra step to make entering the coach easier. We used a wooden step my dad had built for quite a while but it eventually rotted away. We replaced it with this aluminum alloy portable step and are very pleased. It is light weight, has traction grips to make it more secure, and folds down to just over 2". It can support up to 1000 pounds. While we won't need it for the motor home we plan to keep it to use for getting in and out of our van.

Andersen Hitches Ultimate Trailer Gear Trailer Jack Block Bag

We used to use various pieces of wood to try to level our camper. This took many tries to get it right-kinda like putting together a puzzle. After trying different combinations of wood pieces to level the camper, we would often end up not quite level but with frayed tempers.  These Anderson Leveling blocks are amazingly easy to use! Simply slide them under your wheels, drive up until level and insert the holding chock. No trial and error to get it right! Each leveling chock can adjust height by up to 4". This kit also includes a tire changing lifter to help you change a tire on a two axle trailer. Also included are blocks for under your stabilizer jacks and a ground step to help eliminate dirt from being tracked into your camper. It is a great kit that has made setting up camp much quicker and faster!

Camco 25ft TastePURE Drinking Water Hose

When it comes to drinking water, you want to know what you are drinking is safe. We use only certified drinking water hoses to supply our rig with fresh water. Keep several different lengths on hand as you never know how far away a campgrounds water supply may be.

Camco 40045 TastePURE Inline RV Water Filter

An inline water filter is also part of our setup. These filters remove impurities before they enter your RV to provide you clean, safe drinking water. An inline filter can also help prevent damage from occurring to your hot water heater or holding tanks from sediment build-up.

90 Degree Hose Elbow

Eliminate strain on your water hose attaching to your RV by using a 90 degree brass elbow. This elbow not only reduces strain on the hose and helps prevents leaks, it also makes it easier to attach the hose to your rig. It is a must have that only costs a couple dollars.

RhinoFLEX 20-Foot RV Sewer Hose Kit

This kit is a great assortment of hoses, connections, and caps. The hose is two pieces allowing you to use exactly the right length to fit different campgrounds. More pieces can be attached as well if you need more length. The hose is a nice thickness to help prevent leaks. Easy twist connections mean you do not have to fuss with trying to connect them together. A handy clear elbow allows you to see when your tank is empty as well as to see clear water after rinsing your hoses or tanks.  A 4 in 1 adapter allows you to connect to different sized dump station hookups. We have this kit as well as a few extra pieces of hose on hand to allow us to reach different distances or to be prepared in case a hose leaks.

Sidewinder RV Sewer Hose Support

This support systems goes under your sewer hose to keep it off the ground and also to assist in draining your black tank. Made of sturdy plastic, it protects the hose from possible damage. The support system is angled to aid in emptying your tank with gravity. Each cradle slightly decreases in height, creating a gentle downward slope as your hose gets closer to the septic connection ensuring better drainage. It folds back compactly and includes a handle for storage and setup. Many campgrounds and counties are now requiring these support systems to be used. The Sidewinder is available in different sizes to fit your needs. We have found that the 20 foot kit serves our needs in almost all situations.

RhinoFLEX Gray Clean System with Hose and Jet Rinser Cap

You do not want to use the same hoses you use for drinking water to clean out your dirty tanks or sewer hose! By using this bright orange hose only for cleaning the dirty stuff, you can ensure by sight that you are not cross-contaminating your fresh water supply. This handy kit includes the orange hose along with a turn off valve and a rinse cap to attach to sewer hose to rinse out after dumping your tanks. You disconnect the sewer drain hose from your RV and use this rinser cap to attach the orange hose to your sewer line while leaving the sewer hose in the dump site. Then use water and flush your sewer line well.  This rinser cap set will keep the dirty parts clean without worry of contamination to your clean water hoses. We store all of our sewerage connections and hoses in a designated tote to ensure no bacteria gets on any other items.

FoamTouch 4x24x96HD1.8 Upholstery Foam

Our RV's dinette cushions were worn and uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time. Instead of paying an upholstery shop hundreds of dollars to replace the foam, I ordered this foam and cut it to size. Instead of using the worn covers, I purchased a set of sheets and used safety pins to secure them. This way i can wash them as needed or even change the patterns or colors to freshen up the look. This foam is super comfy, doesn't smell, and is a great replacement for old, tired cushions.

Waterproof Spare Tire Cover

Use this cover to protect your spare tire from harmful UV rays while adding a bit of flair to your tire.  It is easy to install with a sliding rope drawstring.
